It was all jubilations and excitement yesterday when Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II exchanged matrimonial vows with Sylvia Luswata Nagginda from now to known as Nabagereka (The Queen of Buganda).

Hundreds of thousands of peole yesterday thronged Lubiri Palace to attend the reception of Kabaka and Nabagereka.

Kabaka arrived at Namirembe Cathedral in a black Lincoln Town Car limousine flew in specifically for the Royal wedding. Mutebi was dressed in deep blue royal robes with richly-woven golden threads covered with diamond studs, fit for a King.

Nabagereka wore a "busuuti" like bodice encrusted with pearls set in gold. The sleeves had W-shaped trimming. She wore a gold tiara with diamonds that matched the necklace and earrings. Her veil was snow-white with lace trimming and her gown had a Cathedral train of about 20 feet.

The colourful reception was attended among others, by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini Kabhekuzulu from South Africa and a delegation from Swaziland.

Most of the Royals from all the cultural institutions in Uganda who included His Highness Kyabazinga Wako Muloki of Busoga,  seven year old King Oyo of Toro and The Alur paramount cheif Rwoth Ubimo Jobi II of Acholi.

After the Cathedral, the Royal couple hosted their guests to a grand reception held in the newly renovated Palace - Lubiri. The Royal couple cut a five tiered cake with a pop of champagne. Katikiro Mulwanyamuli later introduced a visibly happy Nagginda to the people as their Nabagereka.

After the church service Kabaka Mutebi and Nabagereka drove to Bulange, Mengo where they rested a bit before driving to "Twekobe" (Kabaka's official house in palace). He first hosted VIPs in front of "Twekobe" in a giant tent with sitting capacity of 5,000 people. The tent was provided by the Baganda community in the United Kingdom at a cost of $1,000.

Thousands lined Kabakanjagala Road cheering and waving to the royal couple. Almost all the cabinet ministers, MPs and traditional rulers attended the reception where they treated to lunch and drinks provided by Sheraton catering.

President Museveni graced the ceremony by giving his advise to the newly weds. Museveni said that in Ankole marriage is divided into three parts; 'okushweera' (marriage), 'okzaara' (producing children) and 'okutuunga' (getting property). Museveni said that he will contribute on the third item and promised to give Mutebi 10 heifers.

"The remaining two that is marriage and producing two that is marriage and producing children, you will do it yourself." Museveni said amidst cheers.

President Yoweri Museveni, accompanied by his wife Janet, was among the several dignitaries in attendance. In his speech, he said he was happy with the Buganda monarchy and promised to help promote it.
