It
was all jubilations and excitement yesterday when Kabaka Ronald
Muwenda Mutebi II exchanged matrimonial vows with Sylvia Luswata
Nagginda from now to known as Nabagereka (The Queen of Buganda).
Hundreds
of thousands of peole yesterday thronged Lubiri Palace to attend the
reception of Kabaka and Nabagereka. Kabaka
arrived at Namirembe Cathedral in a black Lincoln Town Car limousine
flew in specifically for the Royal wedding. Mutebi was dressed in
deep blue royal robes with richly-woven golden threads covered with
diamond studs, fit for a King. Nabagereka
wore a "busuuti" like bodice encrusted with pearls
set in gold. The sleeves had W-shaped trimming. She wore a gold
tiara with diamonds that matched the necklace and earrings. Her veil
was snow-white with lace trimming and her gown had a Cathedral train
of about 20 feet.  The
colourful reception was attended among others, by Zulu King Goodwill
Zwelithini Kabhekuzulu from South Africa and a delegation from
Swaziland. Most
of the Royals from all the cultural institutions in Uganda who
included His Highness Kyabazinga Wako Muloki of Busoga, seven
year old King Oyo of Toro and The Alur paramount cheif Rwoth Ubimo
Jobi II of Acholi. After
the Cathedral, the Royal couple hosted their guests to a grand
reception held in the newly renovated Palace - Lubiri. The Royal
couple cut a five tiered cake with a pop of champagne. Katikiro
Mulwanyamuli later introduced a visibly happy Nagginda to the people
as their Nabagereka.

After the church service Kabaka Mutebi and
Nabagereka drove to Bulange, Mengo where they rested a bit before
driving to "Twekobe" (Kabaka's official house in
palace). He first hosted VIPs in front of "Twekobe"
in a giant tent with sitting capacity of 5,000 people. The tent was
provided by the Baganda community in the United Kingdom at a cost of
$1,000.
Thousands lined Kabakanjagala Road cheering
and waving to the royal couple. Almost all the cabinet ministers,
MPs and traditional rulers attended the reception where they treated
to lunch and drinks provided by Sheraton catering.
President
Museveni graced the ceremony by giving his advise to the newly weds.
Museveni said that in Ankole marriage is divided into three parts; 'okushweera'
(marriage), 'okzaara' (producing children) and 'okutuunga' (getting
property). Museveni said that he will contribute on the third item
and promised to give Mutebi 10 heifers.
"The remaining two that is marriage and
producing two that is marriage and producing children, you will do
it yourself." Museveni said amidst cheers.
President Yoweri Museveni, accompanied by his
wife Janet, was among the several dignitaries in attendance. In his
speech, he said he was happy with the Buganda monarchy and promised
to help promote it.
