Museveni summons MPs on Bujagali

President Yoweri Museveni has summoned the members of the two parliamentary committees on the National Economy and Natural Resources, The Monitor has learnt.

Yesterday the two chairmen of the committees, Isaac Musumba (National Economy) and Ben Mutyaba (Natural Resources) were served with letters urging them to mobilise their members to meet the President on March 25 at State Lodge Nakasero beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The Monitor has been told the MPs are likely to discuss the controversial Bujagali power project. A section of MPs are opposed to the some of the terms in the Power Purchase Agreement (PAP).

Last month the project suffered a set-back when the World Bank slapped a one-year suspension on the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). (See "WB Suspends Bujagali Dam", The Monitor, March 01).

This happened last February when a Ugandan delegation led by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Gerald Sendaula and that of Energy and Mineral Development, Richard Kaijuka went to the USA to negotiate with World Bank officials on the UEB-AES Nile Independent deal.

This is the second time the President is summoning MPs to discuss the Bujagali project. Last January he summoned both Mutyaba and Musumba to his country home in Rwakitura, Mbarara to discuss the same deal.
