Jinja Sailing Club

Once upon a couple of years ago, Jinja Sailing Club was getting run down with poor management. Today, it is a delightful place that is an ideal getaway for the whole family. So pack up  the children in the car and head for a boat ride.

A cool breeze from Lake Victoria provides a natural welcome as one descends the steep slope to the Jinja Sailing Club where several visitors flock. The hidden treasure only awaits your discovery.

Water rapids that keep slapping the shore and the sound emanating from the  engine boats that cruise on the lake, earns the place and feel for a beautiful sailing spot. While there, the choice is rests on you, provided you have the money to spend for a peaceful weekend.

The club that has undergone a complete renovation after the Madhvani Group repossessed it, and it now boasts of a number of facilities ranging from the kitchen, bar and water sporting.

Visit the place while in Jinja and you will marvel at the services. The food is fantastic and the cool breeze that blows as you sit on the deck enjoying your favourite dish compliments the enjoyment and relaxation at the club. All that is what makes Jinja Sailing Club tick.

Located two kilometers out of Jinja near the Jinja Pier, Jinja Sailing Club scores highly with its newly established “Captain’s Table”, a fully air-conditioned restaurant featuring continental, local and the Indian Tandoor dishes all served under the best location, quite unique in town.

There is a fully air-conditioned Explorer’s Bar and an open air self-service Anchor Bar that features a wide range of snacks and barbecue served in the landscaped gardens. Guests seem to like the place. A whole Tilapia fish that weighs between 750 grammes and one kilogramme, is part of the dishes that guests yearn for, especially on weekends.

The imposing floating deck and jetty that extends far into the lake is another attraction to visitors. The floating deck is an ideal location to watch the setting sun from the tranquil waters of Lake Victoria.
However, as one expects that last glance onto the day’s sun period, fishing rods and baits are often used while on the deck and often than not, guests hook out big fish as part of the game.

Management at the sailing club provides boat cruises in the newly acquired stream-lined speedboats. Short excursions on the lake are reasonably priced at sh4,000 for a 15 minutes ride.
“We cater for about 60 guests on average per day and we expect to host more if people get to know about this hidden treasure,” Gurmit Singh, the manager of operations said.

As a dish to crown up the week, an “Eat as much as you like,” a fresco Sunday buffet, is served between 12:00 noon and 3:00pm. Visiting families have fun on this type of menu.
The children’s playground provides fun and enjoyment for young adventurous children. Several toys have been installed and on weekends one would think, the sailing club was a nursery school, due to the presence of many delighted children.
